How should I consider TOG when dressing my child?
Published TOG ratings (with appropriate rounding) should be considered in conjunction with our specific clothing guides (found online and on pack) and are from test results that we believe reflect the appropriate TOG when used in conjunction with our clothing guides. Test methods we use for selected garments are EN ISO 11092, ASTM 1291(modified to the same parameters as EN ISO 11092) or ISO 5085-1.We believe that our TOG ratings, together with our clothing guides, help parents and carers make the best decision on how to dress their child at different room temperatures. We also provide guidance on how the parent or carer can check if the child is too hot or too cold. This is important in empowering the parent or carer to decide what is best for their child. All children are different. The number of clothing layers required may vary according to a child’s health, their physiology the room temperature, the outside temperature and other factors. The care-giver must determine what is suitable. We do not provide medical advice. The TOG rating (with appropriate rounding) is obtained using any one of the following globally recognised test methods, EN ISO 11092, ASTM 1291(modified to the same parameters as EN ISO 11092) or ISO 5085-1.
STAGE 1: SWADDLE UPâ„¢
Why SWADDLE UPâ„¢?
Medical research suggests that swaddling is beneficial in helping newborns to sleep better. Swaddling a baby may calm their 'startle reflex' which wakes them up & disturbs their sleep. Our patented, award-winning SWADDLE UPâ„¢ helps baby to settle quickly & establish a peaceful sleep routine. Importantly, it completely removes the need for loose blankets in the cot/crib, making it a safer option for babies.Unlike traditional swaddles that keep a baby's arms by their side or across their chest, the unique ARMS UP design of our SWADDLE UPâ„¢ has patented wings that allow a baby to sleep in their natural ARMS UP position. This means your baby can easily touch their face & suck on their hands & fingers for true SELF-SOOTHING.
What is SELF-SOOTHING?
A natural way babies settle themselves to sleep is by sucking on their hands or gently rubbing their cheeks. This is called SELF-SOOTHING. This hand sucking can also help develop mouth muscles which aid in feeding, speech development & their natural rooting reflex. SWADDLE UP™ has been designed to allow babies to safely suck on their hands for SELF-SOOTHING.SELF-SOOTHING = MORE SLEEP
Why ARMS UP?
SWADDLE UPâ„¢ is specifically designed to let your baby sleep in a natural ARMS UP position. This allows them to bring their hands to mouth for SELF-SOOTHING during sleep time, resulting in more sleep for everyone.
Can my baby use the LOVE TO DREAM SWADDLE UPâ„¢ from day one?
Yes, this is actually the best time to start. If your baby weighs between 2.2-3.8kg/5-8.5lbs at birth please choose the SWADDLE UPâ„¢ in size Newborn. If your baby weighs between 3.5-6kg/8-13lbs at birth, please choose the SWADDLE UPâ„¢ in size Small. While there is some crossover in size, we highly recommend you do not move into size Small unless or until your baby is at the upper limit of size Newborn. Using a SWADDLE UPâ„¢ or any garment that is too big for your baby can be dangerous for your baby as excess fabric can be a hazard.https://youtu.be/9cqha3C3nH8
Is the SWADDLE UP™ healthy for your baby’s hip development?
Our SWADDLE UP and SWADDLE UP TRANSITION BAG/SUIT are acknowledged as a hip-healthy product by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute- their design allows the recommended flexion for hips & legs. Your baby's natural, safe sleep position is with their legs splayed in a frog-like position. The SWADDLE UPâ„¢ allows your baby to sleep in this position without restriction.
Why is there no quilting on the backside of the SWADDLE UPâ„¢ Warm and Extra Warm?
When babies are in our SWADDLE UPâ„¢ it is important that they sleep on their back to reduce the risk of SIDS. Therefore there is no need for quilting on the backside of the swaddle as babies back is in constant contact with the sheet/blanket of the cot/crib. This does not affect the warmth of the garment. This will differ in our Stage 2 garments (SWADDLE UPâ„¢ TRANSITION BAG/SUIT) as babies are now able to roll onto their stomach, and quilting is therefore needed on the backside too. The same applies to the Stage 3 LOVE TO DREAM SLEEP SUITâ„¢.
STAGE 2: TRANSITIONAL
Why TRANSITION BAG/SUIT?
As soon as a baby shows signs of rolling, parents must stop swaddling & transition their baby to 'arms-free' sleep. Our TRANSITION BAG or SUIT is the simplest solution to transition a baby from being swaddled to 'arms-free' - all while preserving their cherished sleep routine.
When should I stop swaddling my baby and transition?
Irrespective of which swaddling method you use, you must stop swaddling your baby as soon as he or she starts to show signs of being able to roll over independently. At this time, you must transition your baby out of swaddling into 'arms-free' sleeping.Your baby's arms should not be restricted when they are able to roll over - this advice is the same for any form of swaddling you may be using. Around this time, you baby's startle reflex should have diminished. The SWADDLE UPâ„¢ TRANSITION BAG/SUIT is a great way to prepare your baby for the transition from being swaddled to 'arms-free' independent sleep.
What's the easiest way to transition my baby?
If your baby has not shown signs of rolling yet, you can simply allow them to sleep in the SWADDLE UP™ TRANSITION SUIT until they show signs of trying to roll. Once they show signs of trying to roll over, you must stop swaddling your baby and transition them. Start with one ARMS UP™ wing and one SELF-SOOTHING SLEEVE on (cuff folded over). After several nights of your baby settling into this routine, remove the ARMS UP wing and start bedtime off with both SELF-SOOTHING SLEEVES zipped on (cuffs folded over). Once your baby has settled into a routine, you can open the cuffs for true arms-free sleep. Some babies transition in a few nights, others can take a few weeks. The SWADDLE UP™ TRANSITION SUIT with SELF-SOOTHING SLEEVES is especially helpful for any baby who is having a harder time going from being swaddled to arms-free sleep.
How long will it take to transition my baby?
Every baby is different - some only take a couple of days to transition; some may take a little longer. It can be helpful to try starting your baby’s transition during his or her day sleeps. Or perhaps try waiting until your baby is asleep before removing a ‘wing’ from your SWADDLE UP™ TRANSITION BAG/SUIT for the first time.
Is the SWADDLE UP™ TRANSITION BAG/SUIT healthy for your baby’s hip development?
