The fit should be snug

A snug fit around the arms and torso helps calm the Moro/Startle Reflex. The neck hole should fit closely and comfortably without being restrictive (you should be able to get 1 to 2 fingers in the neck hole). The neck hole must not be able to pass up and over the baby's mouth. For the best fit, please select the size based on your child's weight, not their height or age.

When should I stop swaddling my baby and transition?

Irrespective of which swaddling method you use, you must stop swaddling your baby as soon as he or she starts to show signs of being able to roll over independently. At this time, you must transition your baby out of swaddling into 'arms-free' sleeping. Your baby's arms should not be restricted when they are able to roll over - this advice is the same for any form of swaddling you may be using. Around this time, you baby's startle reflex should have diminished. The Swaddle Up™ Transition Bag/Suit is a great way to prepare your baby for the transition from being swaddled to 'arms-free' independent sleep.

Which swaddle style is right for my baby’s age and sleep stage?

The Transition Bag or Suit is designed for the moment your baby starts showing signs of rolling, when you must stop swaddling but they're not yet ready to sleep arms-free. It bridges that gap by letting you gradually remove one arm at a time, so sleep isn't disrupted overnight. If your baby is between 3 and 6 months and beginning to roll, this is the product for this stage.

Which swaddle style is right for my baby’s age and sleep stage?

The easiest approach is to go gradually: start with one wing unzipped and one self-soothing sleeve on, then after a few settled nights remove the wing completely and use both sleeves. Once your baby is comfortable, open the cuffs for full arms-free sleep. Some babies make the change in a few nights, others take a few weeks. Both are completely normal. The Swaddle Up™ Transition Suit with self-soothing sleeves is especially helpful for babies who find the adjustment difficult.

When should I choose a a TOG?

TOG measures how warm a sleep garment will keep your baby during the transition stage: the higher the number, the warmer. Use 0.2 TOG for rooms above 24°C, 1.0 TOG for 21–24°C, and 2.5 TOG for cooler rooms around 18–21°C. As your baby moves through the transition, keep the same TOG rules in place. A room thermometer is your best tool for getting this right each night.

For best fit result please select your Swaddle Up™ sizing according to your child's weight not their age. The Swaddle Up™ Transition Bag/Suit range is available in three sizes: Medium (Suitable for 6-8.5kg), Large (Suitable for 8.5-11kg) and Extra Large (Suitable for 11-14kg).

How many Swaddle Up™ Transition Bags/Suits should I buy?

We recommend that you purchase at least two in the appropriate size. If you own two, then one can be in the wash while your baby is wearing the other one. It might even be helpful to consider having a third on hand to use in case of emergencies.
